First Snow

The snow is falling this morning, whitening rooftops and car hoods in Marquette. Our basement blocks were delivered on Friday. A friendly guy came and drove his 18-wheel truck right out onto the slab. There they sit.

About a week ago I strained my back wrestling with the kids. I love how they make me feel young but this time I guess I went too far. Anyway I feel fine today. I think a couple more days rest are in order before any hard labor. It's hard to hold back at this point, but a body can only do what it can do. I'll be calling masons the next couple days to ask for help getting that part together.

Slab it to me

Here it is. Three trucks full plus two more cubic yards of concrete poured into a rectangular shape in the middle of a wilderness. It is absurd I know.

These are lintels to go above windows in the block wall on the north side of the house. The south side will be a stud wall with the East and West stepping in between.

Note the difference from last week on this shot. Fall moves so fast.

Bring me mud

After a few weeks of fussing with levels of earth, stone and sand we are ready for the concrete trucks to come. Just in time, too. I was driving in the last stakes by the light of the moon tonight and the concrete is due tomorrow at 9:00.
Today was a hectic day of details. I made it more hectic than it had to be by working faster than my rainbow could keep up with. That's partly why Mossy got his head busted into with a stick. He and Bird Jane were working as too-hard as I was in the brush pile and it ended up with a trip to the ER. Nothing too serious: After many stickers and promises of ice cream he let them wash his eyebrow and glue the gash back together.
Anyway, good night. I'm wasted.
